In a gist:
As a TechLabs mentor, you make an important contribution to our unique ecosystem by sharing your knowledge with tech-enthusiastic students and supporting them in applying newly learned theoretical knowledge on projects!
Our "DigitalShaper" program has an initial 6-week learning phase where the participants ("Techies") study through online courses on their own with little or no inputs needed from you. The coding level of the participants varies from beginners to advanced coders. But they will strive hard to be on par before the "Project Phase" starts.
As a TechLabs mentor, your main task is to supervise a project that is carried out by a group of Techies. We are looking for volunteers who have fun teaching programming and would enjoy leading a group from Ideation-Execution-Conclusion across exciting topics.
What will a Mentor do?
- You take an active part in the project ideation phase to help the Techies develop their own vision, you assist the Techies in defining a clear project vision, and in the project phase, you regularly coach your project team. With your expertise, you help them make progress with their project.
- You are available via Slack for questions and try to reply in less than 24 hours.
- You are present for (Bi-)Weekly "check-in" during the project phase during which you either personally, video call, or via slack inquire about the progress and help to overcome possible motivation or technical hurdles.
- You will be able to attend the "Idea Evaluation" & "Project Kick-Off" sessions in May-June. (The two Sessions will be online for around 2 hours, exact dates will be announced in April)
Additionally, we encourage you to give special lectures on any topic of your choice, or research work you are currently undertaking. We saw from previous experience that our Techies as well as other Mentors are always keen to join such sessions and have wonderful discussions 🙂
You will be a perfect fit, if:
- You have knowledge in Data Science/ AI/ Web Development; e.g. you are currently working or have already gained some experience in a company or research institute.
- Data Science
- Artificial Intelligence
- Web Development
- You love to share your experience with young tech enthusiasts and are willing to assist them in the realization of hands-on projects (~ 1-3 hours/week from end of May to end of October)
- You enjoy teaching Tech-Skills, but you are also curious and ambitious to learn new things yourself.
